In this edition of our series on IKO asphalt shingles, we’re diving into the architectural line — which feature a well-defined dimensional profile, as well as deep shadow bands that bring to mind the aesthetic of natural wood shake.
IKO is one of the top shingle companies in the country, and a popular choice — along with GAF and Owens Corning asphalt shingles — in the Dane County area. IKO’s products are dependable, durable and beautiful.
Here’s a quick peek of their entire line, which are all highlighted in this series::
- Dynasty Performance Shingles
- Nordic Performance Shingles
- Architectural Shingles
- Traditional 3-Tab Shingles
- Armour Designer Shingles
- Crown Slate Designer Shingles
- Royal Estate Designer Shingles
In this article we’re covering some of the benefits of the Cambridge line, as well as color options and a mini gallery.
AMAZING ARCHITECTURAL ASPHALT SHINGLES
A high-quality product, Cambridge Asphalt Architectural Shingles provide homeowners with many benefits, including outstanding weather protection, increased curb appeal, and an excellent warranty. These shingles are also engineered for durability, making them a wise investment.
Another benefit is the fact that these shingles come in IKO’s special “Advantage” size, which is bigger than many competitors’ shingles at a comparable price point — making it easier, and more efficient for roofing contractors to install. Plus the larger size looks great!
Additional benefits include:
A STRAIGHT CUT
IKO Cambridge Architectural Asphalt Shingles use a straight, not angled, cut. This results in a more pronounced dimensional profile, with deep shadow bands and staggered “dragon’s teeth” that create the appearance of natural wood shake — without the maintenance requirements.
IKO FASTLOCK® SEALANT STRIPS
Shingles should lie flat, and stay in place, on your roof. If wind lifts shingles up, water from ice dams — or wind-driven rain — can get in-between the shingles and the underlay, which can cause a leaky roof. IKO shingles are made with FastLock sealant strips along the bottom edges of the shingles. FastLock is activated by the sun’s heat, which makes it super tacky, creating an excellent bond — ensuring maximum protection against blow-off, wind uplift and water penetration.
EXTRA BLOW-OFF PROTECTION
Speaking of extra blow-off protection, these shingles also have printed nail line guides so installers can more easily position and fasten shingles correctly. This is another design element that helps keep shingles where they belong, preventing blow off in high wind.
BUILT-IN ALGAE RESISTANCE
IKO embeds copper-coated granules into Cambridge shingles, and this helps inhibit growth of blue-green algae (which can cause black stains, streaks and discoloration on a roof).
FABULOUS FIBERGLASS MAT
IKO’s fiberglass mat is coated — on the top and bottom — with weathering asphalt before being surfaced with colored, protective granules for a heavy-duty mat that’s incredibly durable.
COLORS
The colors for the IKO Cambridge line are designed to blend beautifully into their natural surroundings. Before we take a look at them, we’d like to mention that getting the shingle color just right is a big part of any roofing purchase. That said, no matter which asphalt roofing product you ultimately go with, it’s best to request a shingle sample before making any decisions. Computers, phones and tablets may produce color variations, and the last thing you want is for your roof color to look different than you expected.
