Welcome back to our series on the IKO line of asphalt shingles.
In Part 1 of the series, we took a look at Dynasty Performance Shingles, and in Part 2 we’ll be diving into Nordic Performance Shingles.
IKO is one of the top shingle companies in the country, which means their products are dependable, durable and beautiful. IKO offers seven spectacular asphalt shingle styles, including:
- Dynasty Performance Shingles
- Nordic Performance Shingles
- Architectural Shingles
- Traditional 3-Tab Shingles
- Armour Designer Shingles
- Crown Slate Designer Shingles
- Royal Estate Designer Shingles
Let’s dive into IKO’s Nordic line of performance asphalt shingles with a look at the benefits of the product, as well as colors and a mini gallery …
TOP PERFORMING SHINGLES
IKO Nordic Performance Shingles are designed for outstanding wind and impact resistance. They carry a high-wind limited warranty coverage for winds up to 130 mph (210 kmh). They also offer a Class 4 Impact Resistance rating, which may enable residential property owners to obtain a reduction in their residential insurance premium (if available).
In addition to excellent performance and protection against the elements, they also outperform most comparable shingles you can get at a similar price point. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why …
THE ARMOURZONE® ADVANTAGE
Nordic performance asphalt shingles with ArmourZone® are made in IKO’s Advantage size, which means these shingles are larger than most competitors’ comparable products — providing greater exposure for a beautiful, dramatic look.
ArmourZone is a 1-¼-inch-wide nailing surface for correct nail placement, reinforced by a tear-resistant band that provides additional fastening strength over a wider shingle surface area. In other words, when nails are applied in this area, they’re perfectly positioned to help resist nail pull-through — and shingle blow-off — even in high winds.
BUILT-IN ALGAE RESISTANCE
Copper-coated granules are embedded into Nordic shingles, and this helps inhibit growth of blue-green algae (which can cause black stains, streaks and discoloration on a roof).
IKO FASTLOCK® SEALANT STRIPS
Shingles should lie flat, and stay in place, on your roof. If wind lifts shingles up, water from ice dams — or wind-driven rain — can get in-between the shingles and the underlay, which can cause a leaky roof. IKO shingles are made with FastLock sealant strips along the bottom edges of the shingles. FastLock is activated by the sun’s heat, which makes it super tacky, creating an excellent bond — ensuring maximum protection against blow-off, wind uplift and water penetration.
EXTRA BLOW-OFF PROTECTION
Speaking of extra blow-off protection, these shingles also have printed nail line guides so installers can more easily position and fasten shingles correctly. This is another design element that helps keep shingles where they belong, preventing blow off in high wind.
FABULOUS FIBERGLASS MAT
IKO’s fiberglass mat is coated — on the top and bottom — with weathering asphalt before being surfaced with colored, protective granules for a heavy-duty mat that’s incredibly durable.
COLORS
IKO Nordic Performance Shingles have a fantastic aesthetic, with high-definition color blends and an extra-large exposure. This combination creates the look and visual texture of real stone tile or wood shake — without the expense or maintenance needs of actual stone tile or wood shake.
A Note on Color Accuracy
Before we take a look at the Nordic line of colors, we’d like to mention that getting the shingle color just right is a big part of any roofing purchase. That said, no matter which asphalt roofing product you ultimately go with, keep in mind that it’s best to request a shingle sample before making any decisions. Why? Because computers, phones and tablets may produce color variations, and the last thing you want is for your roof color to look different than you expected.
