METAL ROOFING OFFERS UNMATCHED DURABILITY & LONGEVITY
Metal roofs are a premium product. Although they cost more than asphalt shingles, they offer an array of benefits that make them favorites among Dane County homeowners, including: a life-span of 50+ years, incredible durability, energy efficiency, as well as safety against wildfire and lightning strike. Plus, metal roofing is eco-friendly, containing between 25-95% recycled content.
The top metal roofing brand we install is DECRA, and they’re the #1 stone coated steel metal roofing company in America.
SOPHISTICATED STYLE, EXPERTLY CRAFTED WITH THE STRENGTH OF STEEL
DECRA metal roofing provides Dane County homeowners with an amazing aesthetic, along with the toughness of stone-coated steel construction, for decades of enjoyment and increased curb appeal. Their proprietary stone-coating process involves, “adhering natural stone granules to the top of base steel sheets, to provide a wide range of styles, colors, and textures …” In a nutshell, if you would like a roof on your home that can withstand nearly anything the Wisconsin weather can muster — without sacrificing style — look no further than DECRA.
The following is an overview of the DECRA metal roofing product line, as well as some information about DECRA’s amazing warranty and history.
DECRA METAL ROOFING
DECRA Villa Tile
Designwise, these metal tiles have the look of barrel-style Spanish tile. Coupled with the considerable strength of DECRA’s stone-coated steel, which is much stronger than actual Spanish tile, DECRA Villa Tiles provide the look of Spanish tile without having to deal with a fragile material that requires ongoing maintenance.
DECRA Tile
Crafted from the same stone-coated steel as the Villa Tile, the DECRA Tile features a scalloped-style Mediterranean aesthetic, which provides beauty and durability. As with authentic Spanish tile, actual scalloped-style Mediterranean tiles do not hold up well. They crack easily, and are prone to damage from the elements. So, if you’re looking for the aesthetic of scalloped Mediterranean tiles, without the hassle of constant maintenance, DECRA Tiles are the perfect choice.
DECRA Shingle XD
One of the major perks of these metal shingles is the fact that they have the dimensionality of asphalt shingles — featuring thick-cut edges — coupled with the durability of stone-coated steel. If you like the look of asphalt shingles, but wish they lasted longer, these metal shingles may be perfect for your home.
DECRA Shake XD
Delivering rustic appeal, and the distinct texture of hand-split wood shake, Shake XD is made of super-sturdy, stone-coated steel for decades of protection and curb appeal. Say goodbye to the need for ongoing maintenance with this high-performance shingle that’s crafted with the element-resistant strength of steel. Plus, unlike actual wood shake, Shake XD’s color stays vibrant over time.

THE DECRA Lifetime Warranty
Unsurpassed in strength, durability and longevity, only DECRA can offer the most comprehensive Lifetime Limited Warranty in the industry. Resistant to wind, hail, fire, freeze and earthquake, DECRA metal roofs outperform other roofing materials in every category.
What makes DECRA’s Lifetime Limited Warranty the most comprehensive in the industry?
Wind, rain, hail, snow, and even dry sunny climates, all take their toll on conventional roofing materials. The heaviest architectural shingles are typically rated for wind resistance between just 60-110 mph. Clay tile and wood shakes are so prone to wind damage that they aren’t rated at all, and even fiber cement products are only rated up to 75 mph. DECRA stone-coated steel roofing is unsurpassed for durability, with a UL 2218 certification for Class 4 impact resistance against hail penetration — and a wind warranty for up to 120 mph.
About DECRA
DECRA is widely known as the brand that created a WWII innovation that would “revolutionize the roofing industry.”
1939: The Decraspray Co. develops a new method for camouflaging buildings, making them less visible during wartime. Decraspray Co. created an emulsion formula using the highest possible bitumen content to achieve a durable, water-resistant coating that would both disguise and protect the underlying metal roof. At the time, Decraspray wasn’t aware that this coating would revolutionize the roofing industry.
1946: After the war, many attempts were made to remove the Decraspray company’s coating from the roofing it was applied to. That said, the coating bonded so well, it was virtually impossible to successfully remove it from the roofing.
More than a decade after application to the metal roofing, it was evident that these roofs were still in pristine condition. And this sparked the idea to use their formula for residential and commercial buildings. Once it was made available for these applications, Decraspray Company’s coating became a popular product, eventually attracting the attention of a New Zealand industrialist, Lou Fisher …
1954: Mr. Fisher visited the UK in 1954 to see the product, and was amazed at how well-preserved the Decraspray metal roofs were. Having the vision for a new standard of durable roofing, Fisher acquired the exclusive right to manufacture the Decraspray formula in all areas outside the UK. After returning to New Zealand, he opened his first overseas manufacturing plant that focused on coating galvanized steel sheets with Decraspray’s emulsion formula. In 1955, Decramastic became registered as a trademark by Lou Fisher.
1957: Fisher produced the first Decramastic roofing tiles using the bitumen emulsion on galvanized steel metal tiles. When the tar-like covering caused panels to stick together (under the heat of the sun), Fisher added crushed stone granules to the manufacturing process to solve the problem. In addition, the stone granules had the added benefit of becoming a sought-after design feature in residential areas because they gave the roofing a more appealing aesthetic.
1967: Innovation continued and Decramastic tiles were improved with an interlocking feature for added substantially and durability.
1978: Increased demand for the product led to the opening of a manufacturing plant in Liege, Belgium. This plant produced stone-coated roofing tiles under the Decra® name.
1980: With continued product innovation, the bituminous emulsion was replaced with a more state-of-the-art solution: an acrylic coating.
1985: DECRA products begin to gain popularity in the USA. One of the reasons for this was because of a surge of wildfires in California. When communities started banning wood shake roofs, DECRA’s noncombustible, fire-resistant metal roofing was a great solution.
1989: A DECRA manufacturing plant opens in Corona, CA, and begins making metal roofing for a rapidly growing American market.
TODAY: DECRA is still setting the industry standard for high-quality, durable metal roofing. DECRA attests their ongoing success to “the contributions and relentless support from our team members, customers, contractors, distributors and partners.”
THE BENEFITS OF DECRA METAL ROOFING
Long Life Span
Our metal roofs can last 50+ years, while asphalt roofing has an estimated life expectancy of 20 years, on average. As reported by the Metal Roof Alliance, when the initial cost of a metal roof is spread over a 60-year span it costs roughly 1/3 of the expense for asphalt shingle roofing.
Incredibly Durable
Metal roofs can withstand wind gusts that exceed 100 miles an hour, and they’re practically maintenance free. They won’t corrode or crack, and they’re fade resistant. DECRA’s stone granules act as a protective barrier to the stone-coated steel roofing, shielding it from UV rays, debris, hail and the harsh Wisconsin winter.
Safety
In the occurrence of wildfire or a lightning strike, a metal roof does not spark or ignite.
Energy Efficiency and Eco Friendly
Regarding energy efficiency, metal roofing reflects UV and infrared light from the sun that can yield, on average, a 10 to 25% reduction in cooling costs. With sustainability, DECRA roofing products contain 25-30% recycled material, with a lifespan 2-3 times longer than other roofing products — and they’re recyclable. All-in-all, it’s a leading green building product.
Wind Rating
The strength of steel, along with DECRA’s proprietary interlocking system, deliver an unsurpassed wind uplift rating — with a wind warranty of 120mph. In contrast, in most cases, conventional architectural shingles are warrantied to 60-110 mph, while fiber cement products are limited to up to 75mph. When it comes to clay tile or wood shakes, these materials are not covered at all for wind damage.
Sound Dampening
One of the benefits of the stone granules of a DECRA roof is their ability to absorb sound more effectively than other types of metal roofing, especially during rain or hail. Previous to stone granules, noise was one of the deterrents of a metal roof … thanks to DECRA, this is no longer the case.
Good Looks
A key benefit of stone-coated metal roofing is a stunning aesthetic — with the versatility to choose from tile, shingle, or shake styles. In addition, you can choose from a wide array of colors (see the color swatches for each DECRA roofing style in their respective sections above).
Impact Resistance
As durable as they are attractive, stone-coated steel roofing is incredibly impact resistant — so much so that the DECRA UL 2218 Class 4 Impact Resistance rating qualifies for insurance discounts in many states.
